It was a good a place to start looking as any.
It was dark out already, with the stars already in the sky- her only company tonight. Her parents wouldn't be home a few more hours. Not having an older brother to keep track of her anymore left Ivy to her own devices for entertainment- in this case, having a look at a questionable and possibly dangerous area. In all honestly, she seriously doubted she would realistically be able to find anything the police couldn't- particularly not in the dark. But with no other leads currently, she may as well have a look around the scene of a supposedly gruesome incident before moving on. She had some other ideas, but checking out the scene of the crime so soon after the mess was something that couldn't be skipped.
As the ever reliable Yik Yak had pointed out, it could very well be a wild animal attack- a bear, maybe, hence the bear spray that Ivy held onto in her hoodie pocket. But part of her was hoping to discover something different, something that would tease the imagination. While that was unlikely to be the case, one could only hope.
At the edge of the forest, Ivy stepped closer to the trees, reasonably wary despite her interest. Using just the light from her phone, she stepped just twice into the darkness, peering about and scanning the woods, eyebrows raised with curiosity.

[nospaces] This time he didn’t bring S’mores with him. The dog didn’t help much in the situation. Maybe her frightened response was something to keep in mind, but that coulda easily been due to Amelia—rumored cannibal and mysterious blondie that leaves her house every morning at the crack of dawn. David had to keep close to the scene, though. It’s why he was here in the first place. His bartending job be damned; boss knew he was going to be showing up later for the closing shift.
[break][break]All he hears at first is the soft crunch of grass underneath his worn boots. Something catches the corner of his vision. Brown eyes squint as he catches the illumination of a light up ahead. ‘Shit.’ No one from Sector Three was here by his knowledge; the police learned to keep their noses out and the killer probably isn’t dumb enough to return. (How easy his job would be if they were, though.) The light stays in the same place for a good minute. ‘Hesitance?’
[break][break](Please don’t let it be another snot nose kid trying to get themselves killed.)
[break][break]He approaches; tries to remind his body and mind that this isn’t a battlefield. Might be dangerous, but it isn’t one where guns were trained on him. Where any misstep could be a lost leg. It’s his job right now to figure out who’s there; why they are, too. If they end up spooking, he’ll have the fun of a wild goose chase in a woods at night. (Least he’s gotten acquainted with the area over the last few days.)
[break][break]David approaches from the right, keeps his distance and rounds the back of ‘em. Eyes never leave the the shorter figure. Expression flattens. Arms cross over his broad chest out of habit. “You shouldn’t be here, kid.”
