Ivy was born in Anytown, into a well-off but very busy Chinese-American family. While the rest of her family were highly extroverted individuals and thrived off of social interaction, the youngest daughter was a black sheep of sorts. As a little kid, Ivy preferred to stand and watch the event rather than join in, and was excessively shy when it came to making friends, often tagging along with her older brother Rowan instead, much to his chagrin. This resulted in her being remembered mostly as "Rowan's sister" throughout her life.
Rowan Yu was praised by those around him- though dumb as a brick, he grew up athletic, handsome, and charming. Ivy, on the other hand, developed as his polar opposite in a way that was almost comically typical. The youngest daughter the kept to herself and typically went by unnoticed, or occasionally was teased and bullied. Thankfully, despite mostly being pushed around as an errand girl by her brother, he in turn would "hint" to those that bullied his little sister to lay off.
But when Rowan graduated and moved away to an out of state university, Ivy was left on her own.
She was never particularly well liked by other kids, but this was just as well, because she wasn't fond of most other people either. By high school she had all but given up on making friends with the real people around her, turning primarily to internet friends for company instead. In the hallways, she could mostly be found alone, texting away to someone on her cellphone that could be states or counties away. Her trust in other people was at an all time low, and she began to develop a superiority complex, learning that she could only rely on herself, quietly breeding cruelty and a lack of sympathy for others as well.
When odd things started to happen in her hometown, Ivy began to grow very curious about the happenings indeed- being a fan on mysteries and horror- deciding to conduct a personal investigation herself.
