james spends as much time outside the vice principal’s office as he does skipping class today. it’s the coach that catches him – again – and he stumbled through his story something bad. james is bad at excuses.
doesn’t stop james tryna come up with the mother of all excuses while he waits. he swears his body can’t decide between that sweet ’n’ tender resignation or the electrifying anxiety coursing through him. this ain’t his first rodeo but knowing that don’t make a lick of difference. knowing that doesn’t make him less likely to face a bull in the next half a hour.
shit. he’s been playing with his hoodie zipper for the past five minutes. time to focus onto something else.
there’s another girl there ’n’ all, that works for focus. she hasn’t been there as long as james – what, was maybe dropped by a couple ‘a’ minutes ago? – and curiosity puts a damper on anxiety. it’s enough to get himself to stop fidgeting. maybe it’s that resignation almost hitting him but he asks something and james is surprised at how wry he sounds.
“what’re you in for?”

♚ An exhausted sigh left her lips as she was walking down the hallway, ready to open the gates to hell – or rather going to the vice principals office. He wanted a serious talk with her because she skipped class. again. Well, not that she really cared about it anyway… She arrived quickly at the office and waited outside – ready to meet the devil – but it seemed like she wasn't the only one who was about to undergo some punishment, or something like this. What to do now? She was someone who got bored easily so she wanted to find something to distract herself from this feeling. Easier said then done! She was about to give up, when the other person in the room talked to her. Huh? Well, you could say she was kinda surprised because usually, other people tend to ignore her. After the question followed a short break, because she wasn't really sure what to respond – or should she even answer? » Hmm… I guess the usual thing. Skipping class, you? «Her answer was pretty short but she wasn't used to talk to others. » Maybe I'm cursed? «, murmured she to herself. ♚ james dunn wyatt

the break of silence following his question ain’t preferred. the relief is palatable on his face when she replies. his shoulders slacken – they were tense? man, they had been tense – and he leans back in the cheap chair outside the office. he doesn’t pay the murmur any mind.
“me too,” james gives his own pause in the quiet as he takes a moment to reconsider his tone, “pro’ly shouldn’t sound so excited or happy, hearing that.”
“my bad. sucks gettin’ caught, right?” he’s trying not to fidget so james rubs the back of his neck instead. he’s watching her now. his posture isn't relaxed for long as his black beings to straighten, already sitting up more alert in the chair. he's wondering if he should recognise her but he doesn't. he's thinking that's one of the things that kinda sucks about transferring to a small town high school; feels like everyone knows everyone 'cept for you.
but james is also thinking she did say something else earlier – under her breath – and maybe he shoulda paid more attention.
“did you say something else? i kinda didn’t catch it.”
the only other sound around them is the distant buzz classrooms away. nothing much escapes the office. james figures it’s safe to talk.
“ain’t gonna lie, i’ll take sitting out here over sitting through history. what’re you missing?” he’s smiling slightly, “in this kinda hooky-but-not-hooky.“

♚ The Person she was talking to seemed relieved when she answered him and relaxed when he heard that she was there for the same reason as he was. It was understandable because it’s always easier when you’re not alone. „Well, It’s not great but we can’t do anything about it, right?“ she was trying to sound a bit optimistic because the atmosphere, still seemed a bit tense. Sky wasn’t sure what to do in a situation like this, because… It was always only her who got caught when skipping class but now it wasn’t only her. Now that she was thinking about it, she noticed something. Shouldn’t she know him? Well, especially because he seemed like someone she would recognize. She was thinking really much – so much – that she didn’t even noticed that the boy was asking her something. „Oh! Sorry, was kinda spacing out.“ She apologized and answered his question. „I was just saying that it seemed like I was cursed.. because I got catched and now I’m here but I think it could be worse.“She was kinda relieved when he carried the conversation on. „I’m just missing… Hmm, I think Math or something like this. Not really sure. By the way, do I know you?“When she doesn’t recognize him, she just has to ask, right? ♚ james dunn wyatt
